Back in 2004, rumors began swirling that Scarlett Johansson and Benicio del Toro were romantically involved after they were allegedly spotted getting intimate in an elevator during a party at the Hollywood Chateau Marmont Hotel following the Oscars. While del Toro briefly mentioned the incident, Johansson had remained silent about the rumors until recently.
During a conversation on the 9 to 5ish podcast, the star of “Marriage Story” wanted to set the record straight. Scarlett addressed the long-standing rumor that she had engaged in sexual activity in an elevator and expressed her belief that such a story was scandalous. Although she didn’t mention Del Toro specifically in her humorous denial, she made it clear that there was no truth to the gossip.
Scarlett once pondered about the difficulty of a short elevator ride and found the logistics unappealing, adding a joke about her fear of getting caught doing something wrong. She had previously mentioned in an interview with Allure that she found Del Toro to be a fabulous man during the year they were linked.
Regarding the actor who won an Oscar for the movie “Traffic”, it appears that his story differs from that of his colleague. In an interview with Esquire in 2005, he did not outright deny the rumor that he had engaged in sexual activity with Scarlett Johansson in an elevator after an awards ceremony. Instead, he left it open to interpretation.
Hmm, I’m not really sure. It’s open to interpretation, so let people come up with their own ideas. It’s probably happened before and will likely happen again,” she commented, adding a humorous note. “Honestly though, the Chateau Marmont is only eight stories tall. I’d still be struggling to take off my jacket on the second floor.”
